Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 201 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Welcome!

This first week, ending on Saturday 2/07, is just for extra credit. Feel free to make comments over the next few days. You can react to David Copperfield, if you've started it, or comment on your experience in class the other night. A particularly good way to try this format out is to make sure you've read the syllabus carefully and then ask whatever questions you have about the class here. I'm sure you won't be the only one with that question.

  1. I found class to be quite fun surprisingly. It was great how we got to introduce ourselves to the class and in the process of doing that I made two friends! I also learned about resonant imaging! We got to choose an object and recall all memories that we had connecting to that object. So far I learned a lot about David Copperfiled. From the moment he was born David's father has been dead. His life was at ease when he was with his mother and his nurse Clara Peggoty. But every since Mr. Mudderstone came into the picture, David life was turned upside down. David faces a lot of challenges and he must overcome them in order to survive. Not for the sake of himself but for his mother that he loves very much.

  2. My reaction to the first class was first very shy and intimidating because I didn't know what to expect out of the class, but I enjoyed the ice breaker to the class. It allowed everyone to learn a little about one another and potentially growing a relationship with one another as a class. I think this began a successful start of us being comfortable with one another and being able to be open about things on our mind and what we don't understand going further into the class.
