Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 201 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Unlucky

David's birth at the beginning of the novel foreshadowed how his life would pan out. His odd timing of birth led to the idea that he will be unlucky. As we read further into the novel we see how superstition was more than just that. I believe that David is very unlucky throughout his life from the people he comes into contact with and how these characters shape his life. I think David is a lot like his mother in the sense that she let people such as Mr. & Mrs. Murdstone take advantage of her and her naivety such as David does with Steerforth but he's starting to mature and see that his initial perspective of Steerforth is warped.
